On Wednesday August 12, 2015 the Lee Richardson Zoo will be celebrating World Elephant Day. Join us at the elephant exhibit from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. to share in our appreciation of these amazing yet endangered animals. At 1 p.m. there will be special treat with the elephants. Throughout the event you can view and touch unique elephant related biofacts at our discovery cart, visit with staff, and ask questions. There will also be an elephant-themed activity table for kids to enjoy. Spend your lunch hour with us or bring the family for a fun Wednesday treat.
World Elephant Day was started in 2012 by the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand to help spread awareness for elephants and the problems they face in the world today. “World Elephant Day asks you to experience elephants in non-exploitive and sustainable environments where elephants can thrive under care and protection.” So come to the Lee Richardson Zoo and gain a new appreciation for these gentle giants.
