At 9:00 a.m. on August 12, to acknowledge World Elephant Day, a group of like-minded supporters and friends of elephants, especially to captive Lucy in Edmonton, will gather at “Big River Crossing” for a “walk and talk.” Big River Crossing is the longest public pedestrian/bike bridge across the Mississippi River; our group will walk to Arkansas and then return to downtown Memphis. Education is key and spreading the word about Lucy and other elephants who are … subjected to forced circus acts … begging in streets across the world … parading in festivals … being vulnerable to poachers … and kept behind bars in zoos … will be our topics of conversation. Discussing ways how we can help, will also be discussed.
World Elephant Day is a wonderful opportunity to set aside time to have discussions about the hardships these majestic creatures must endure throughout the world.
