About this Event
If you have a love for elephants or Thailand, or just want to learn something new, join us for an evening to find out how elephants are used in Thailand and how the industry has been impacted by Covid-19.
When Elephants Were Young
When Elephants Were Young is a documentary written, filmed and produced by Patricia Sims, the founder, of World Elephant Day, an annual event held every August 12th to celebrate and raise awareness about the threats to these majestic beings around the world.
“A young man and his young elephant street beg in gritty Bangkok amid the controversial elephant business that threatens their survival, until the opportunity comes to release the elephant to the wild.”
From 7:00pm – 8:30pm BST we will watch the documentary through Zoom, followed by a 5-minute comfort break.
From 8:35pm – 9:15pm we will discuss the current situation for elephants in Thailand, prior to and since Covid-19, and then take questions from the audience.
Life for elephants and their mahouts (elephant keepers) in Asia has become increasingly tough since tourists stopped visiting the country due to Covid-19, and until lockdown restrictions are eased, life will continue to be tough and the future uncertain.
100% of funds raised through this event will go to feeding elephants in Thailand.
The instructions on how to join will be emailed shortly before the event starts on August 12th, please check your inbox and spam folder for details.
This event is hosted by Thailand Elephants, a registered charity which raises awareness about the treatment of captive elephants in Thailand and supports ethical elephant venues.
