World Elephant Day – Virtual Event

Thursday, August 12 is World Elephant Day – a day to “bring the world together to help elephants.” Join The Elephant Sanctuary in celebrating World Elephant Day no matter where you are.

At 10 a.m. August 12, head over to The Sanctuary’s Facebook page for an interview with Dr. Joyce Poole of ElephantVoices to learn more about their latest project – The Elephant Ethogram. Years in the making, The Elephant Ethogram is a detailed catalog of African Savanna elephant behaviors and vocalizations. We will hear from Dr. Poole about how this project was created and how it will benefit conservation efforts for wild elephants.

ElephantVoices is just one of The Elephant Sanctuary’s international partners. Keep an eye on our social media pages throughout the day as we highlight some of the other amazing work being done for elephants by our partner organizations.

After you learn more about The Elephant Ethogram, it is your turn to be an elephant scientist. Use our EleCam Scavenger Hunt to spot Sanctuary residents exhibiting natural elephant behaviors in their own habitats via live-streaming EleCams.
